Drew Todd
CO-FOUNDER, FEALS
Co-founded by Drew Todd, Alex Iwanchuk and Eric Scheibling, who met as co-workers in ad tech, Feals seeks to close the loop on making CBD as approachable as possible. This is a valid mission, because while younger, coastal populations are downing tinctures and supplements with abandon, there are still plenty of populations confused about CBD. In fact, Todd notes that the company's most-received question is "Will this make me feel high?" (Answer: nope.) "I think in the New York and LA markets, CBD is everywhere," Todd explains. "It's the cool-kid thing to do. All the cool brands are adding it [to their products]. But the education is really lacking." Most major bottled water brands are actually just processed municipal tap water. Liquid Death comes from a deep underground mountain source protected by a few hundred feet of stone. The water is tapped right from the source into our bottler where it goes directly into air-tight cans after a fancy purification process that 100% maintains the original mineral profile of the water. And these natural minerals (aka electrolytes) aren’t just good for your body, they will murder your thirst. Instantly.

AMANDA | DORMIFY
In 2010, when Amanda Zuckerman was preparing for her freshman year of college, she and her mom, Karen Zuckerman, went shopping for her dorm room. It wasn’t an easy outing: No one retailer or brand could provide what Amanda needed to create a dorm room that felt homey and cohesive. The two identified the problem and came up with a solution. They spent years building a foundation and understanding the market before they launched their own complete line of dorm-room décor in 2013 dubbed Dormify.
BEN/JESSE | HUBBLE
Ben Cogan and Jesse Horwitz figure that by selling their own lenses, produced by one of the world’s largest contact lens manufacturers, for $30 a month on a subscription basis they can undercut major brands like J&J’s Acuvue and Valeant’s Bausch & Lomb. The goal is to disrupt the industry the way Dollar Shave Club and Harry’s shook up the shaving market. Also like Harry’s, New York-based Hubble hopes to add a coolness factor to a staid product. With its colorful boxes, modern design and decidedly non-medical name, Hubble is the first Instagram-friendly contact lens brand.
CRYSTAL | THINX
While THINX appeared then to be on track to book $55 million in revenue in 2018, so had it attracted very little in the way of outside funding, when compared with similarly-aged direct-to-consumer companies. THINX raised $1.4 million from its own manufacturer, MAS holdings in Sri Lanka, while other undergarment upstarts, such as ThirdLove and Lively, have raised more than 10 times that amount. There's also been a recent flurry of M&A activity in the category: Combe (the maker of Vagisil) made a majority stake investment in THINX competitor Sustain Natural, only a week before P&G announced it acquired sexual wellness startup, This Is L, for $100 million.
